Utilizing Digital Twins for Urban Planning: An Integrated Approach to Sustainable and Smart City Development
January 20, 2025
Workshop “Local Digital Twins for Positive Energy Districts: Challenges and Opportunities”
February 11, 2025ExPEDite was thrilled to be a sponsor of the 11th OASC Conference 2025, held from January 22nd to 23rd in Tampere, Finland. This year’s event brought together over 200 city representatives, research institutions, technology companies, and other stakeholders for two days of insightful sessions, engaging workshops, and invaluable networking. The conference focused on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies in creating smarter, more sustainable, and resilient local and regional environments.
During the conference, ExPEDite had the opportunity to showcase its contributions to the smart cities ecosystem with a short presentation about the project. The ExPEDite team engaged with city representatives, exchanging valuable insights, exploring possibilities for replicating project outcomes, and discussing how ExPEDite can contribute to cities’ sustainability goals. The discussions helped strengthen relationships with key stakeholders and opened doors for future collaboration.
The conference also offered a chance to dive deeper into the integration of AI in urban settings, which aligns perfectly with ExPEDite’s focus on leveraging digital twins and AI layers to support the transition towards positive energy districts. The project’s AI-driven approach is a key element in designing sustainable urban environments, and ExPEDite was able to exchange rich feedback with local authorities on their experiences and needs related to this transformative technology.
For those who missed the live presentation, the recording of ExPEDite’s pitch is available here below, while the slides from other conference sessions can be accessed by visiting the conference schedule and clicking on the various sessions (presentations are available for download). Additionally, you can explore the pictures from the event here.
The OASC conference proved to be an excellent platform for learning, sharing experiences, and connecting with others working towards smarter, greener, and more connected cities. ExPEDite looks forward to continuing these valuable discussions and further contributing to the growing movement towards sustainable urban transformation.

ExPEDIte was represented with a booth with support of partner LAUREA during this event and ExPEDite partner OASC (Vincent Demortier) pitched the work and roadmap of the project. You can (re)watch the 5 minute pitch here below.
