Since the launch of the ExPEDite project, our team has been actively involved in numerous conferences, workshops, and events across various domains. These engagements have allowed us to connect with experts, share insights, and stay at the forefront of innovation in our field.

Here is a small selection of key events where you could have met the ExPEDite team:

1. FARI Partner Day, 19 November 2024, Brussels (BE)

During this event ExPEDite organized together with sister project BiPED a workshop entitled “Local Digital Twins for Positive Energy Districts: Challenges and Opportunities”

This interactive workshop explored the potential of Local Digital Twins (LDTs) to support the development of Positive Energy Districts (PEDs) across Europe. Building on the progress and lessons learned from the ExPEDite and BIPED projects to date, EU stakeholders were engaged to discuss the practical development of LDTs in the context of PEDs. The session provided insights into the opportunities and challenges encountered in developing LDT solutions during these projects, together with input from other EU LDT projects and fostered an open exchange on how best to utilise LDTs to facilitate the wider rollout of PEDs across Europe.

2. Smart City Expo World Congress, 5-7 November 2024, Barcelona (SP)

This event is the world’s biggest and most influential event for cities and urban innovation. Every year, they gather leaders from global companies, governments and organisations to move cities towards a better future. The goal is to collectivise urban innovation across the globe and empower cities to face the critical challenges the world faces today: accelerate a brighter urban paradigm towards green, efficient and thriving cities that leave no one behind.

ExPEDite had the pleasure to be represented at the co hosted booth of Open & Agile Smart City and Porto and to have a session dedicated to the work of ExPEDite.

3. Green Building Conference & Expo in Venice, 22-23 October 2024, Venice (IT)

During this event ExPEDite was presented in the session on Digitalization: projects and case studies smart buildings & cities and deep dived in how a digital twin can foster positive energy districts.

4. FIWARE Global Summit, 18-19 September 2024, Naples (IT)

The 10th FIWARE Global Summit, hosted by Comune di Napoli, was full of dynamic discussions, innovation showcases, and thought leadership in the field of cutting-edge technologies such as open source, AI, data spaces, trust and digital twins for smart Cities, smart Energy, smart water, smart agrifood, smart industry, smart transportation and other key economic sectors. This event brought together more than 400 participants from 28 countries. ExPEDite partner Lisbon Council represented ExPEDite in the booth area .

5. CINEA Cluster meeting on “Positive Energy Neighbourhoods and Districts”, 23-24 September 2024, Brussels (BE)

This event brought together key stakeholders, experts, and project teams working on energy transition and urban sustainability from 14  projects from different EU funding programmes (Horizon Europe and the Cities Mission). It served as a vital platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and discussions on the future of Positive Energy Districts (PEDs).

ExPEDite participated in the rich discussions and exchanged on its approach and ideas and lessons learnt.

6. Cities Mission Conference, 23-24 June 2024, Valencia (SP)

On June 25 and 26, no fewer than 450 mayors, city practitioners, national and regional representatives, and urban sustainability experts gathered in Valencia, Spain, for the third Cities Mission Conference.  

Reunited in the 2024 EU Green Capital, the 112 Mission Cities focused their discussions on “Empowering Cities – the Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities Mission in Action”. The event, organised by the European Commission and NetZeroCities as part of the Valencia Cities Climate Week, represented a landmark in the journey towards climate neutrality.

The sister projects ExPEDite and Tips4PED stood side by side in the booth area.

7. OASC Summit 2024, 4 June, Rotterdam (NL)

During the OASC Summit a session was held on “Local Digital Twins for Positive Energy Districts”.

In the session, three recently launched Horizon Europe funded Positive Energy District projects (ExPEDite, BiPED, Tips4PED) provided an overview of how they explore the power of local digital twins to adopt a people-centric approach to develop and redesign green sustainable communities. By presenting the pilot case studies, the role of interoperability and collaborative strategies, this session aimed to facilitate a conversation with cities and communities to explore the transformative potential of digital twins in shaping the future of Positive Energy Districts.
